Arsenal are bracing for a pivotal summer as the club looks to refresh and strengthen the squad following another season of near-misses and mounting pressure. After falling short in the Premier League title race for the third consecutive year, the mood around the Emirates has shifted from hopeful to reflective — and decisive action is expected.
While the Champions League has provided some redemption, the Gunners now face a defining moment. Wednesday’s semi-final second leg against Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes could shape the narrative of their entire season. Mikel Arteta’s side trail 1-0 after a disappointing first-leg defeat at home, courtesy of an early Ousmane Dembélé strike.

With Thomas Partey returning from suspension, Arsenal are boosted in midfield, but PSG’s formidable home form makes the challenge even tougher. A comeback victory would book a spot in the Champions League final and salvage what would then be seen as another successful campaign for Arteta. But failure to progress could prompt questions about the club’s direction and momentum.

According to The Mirror’s John Cross, a major summer overhaul is already in motion, regardless of the result in Paris. Arteta, now working alongside newly appointed sporting director Andrea Berta, is reportedly planning at least three key signings to reshape the squad and address areas of weakness.

A deal is believed to be close for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, with the £51 million Spaniard expected to arrive as a central figure in Arsenal’s midfield rebuild. A new striker is also at the top of the agenda, with Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyökeres and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško seen as more attainable targets than Newcastle’s Alexander Isak.

Arsenal are also eyeing attacking reinforcements out wide, with Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams viewed as a dream signing. Meanwhile, a squad shake-up is expected, with the likes of Oleksandr Zinchenko, Jorginho, and Kieran Tierney likely to depart. Espanyol’s Joan García has also emerged as a target to provide competition in goal as a new deputy to David Raya.
With high stakes on the pitch and significant changes off it, this summer marks a defining period for Arsenal’s project under Arteta — one that could either consolidate their progress or signal the need for serious recalibration.
