Real Madrid legend Fernando Morientes has suggested two in-form La Liga strikers Arsenal should consider signing this summer—one of whom previously struggled to make an impact in the Premier League.

The Gunners are expected to prioritise signing a top-class forward in the upcoming transfer window, having ended another season without silverware. While RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyökeres remain heavily linked with a move to the Emirates, Morientes believes Arsenal could find value in the Spanish top flight.

“If Arsenal want a striker from La Liga, a Spaniard who comes to mind right now is Ayoze Pérez,” Morientes told Online Casinos. “He left Real Betis for just four or five million euros, and he’s become desirable for the big teams because he’s scored a lot of goals and is playing very well.”

Morientes also highlighted Norwegian international Alexander Sørloth as another option: “At the start of the season, I thought he was going to be one of the most important strikers in our league, and I wasn’t wrong, even though he hasn’t played as much as he should have.”

Both Pérez and Sørloth have enjoyed prolific seasons in La Liga, scoring a combined 36 goals. However, neither has a glowing Premier League track record. Sørloth failed to score in the English top flight during his stint at Crystal Palace, managing just 16 appearances following his £9 million move in January 2018. Since moving to Spain, however, the 29-year-old has rediscovered his form, netting 63 goals over three seasons with Real Sociedad, Villarreal, and Atletico Madrid.

Pérez, now 31, spent close to a decade in England with Newcastle United and Leicester City. Though he only reached double-digit league goals once during that period, he is currently enjoying the most prolific season of his career—scoring 22 goals in 32 games for Real Betis.

Despite their impressive recent form, both strikers may be outside Arsenal ’s plans given their age and previous Premier League struggles. Nonetheless, Morientes believes established players like Pérez and Sørloth could offer immediate impact, something emerging talents may take time to deliver.

Arsenal will wrap up their Premier League season against relegated Southampton this weekend, before shifting full focus to a pivotal summer in the transfer market.
