Real Madrid eye another Arsenal star after failed William Saliba transfer

Arsenal face a growing threat of losing one of their brightest young stars, Myles Lewis-Skelly, as La Liga giants Real Madrid intensify their interest amid reports of stalled contract talks at the Emirates.

The 18-year-old Hale End graduate has enjoyed a breakthrough season, making the left-back position his own with a string of standout performances that have impressed both fans and pundits alike. His rapid rise has not only caught the attention of Arsenal’s first team but has now reportedly attracted serious interest from Real Madrid.

According to The Guardian’s Jonathan Wilson on the Football Weekly podcast, Arsenal’s negotiations to extend Lewis-Skelly’s contract—which is set to expire next summer—have hit a rough patch.

“They’ve got to sort out Myles Lewis-Skelly’s contract which expires next summer, and I think talks have not been going well from what I hear,” Wilson said. “Real Madrid are sort of sniffing around there. Imagine Real Madrid wanting a highly-rated Premier League fullback for free. Almost unimaginable, isn’t it?”

The Spanish champions, already closely monitoring William Saliba’s contract situation, appear ready to pounce should Arsenal fail to secure Lewis-Skelly’s long-term future. Sources suggest Real Madrid view the teenager as a potential long-term solution in defence.

Lewis-Skelly’s rapid development and versatility have made him one of the most exciting young talents in English football. His performances have earned him recognition from England boss Thomas Tuchel which resulted in his first England goal on his debut.

The mounting interest from the Bernabéu adds pressure on Arsenal’s recruitment hierarchy, with sporting director Andrea Berta now prioritising the retention of the young fullback. Losing Lewis-Skelly—particularly on a free transfer—would be a significant setback for a club that prides itself on the development of homegrown talent.

With the Gunners also fighting to keep hold of William Saliba, who remains a “dream target” for Real Madrid according to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal’s resolve and negotiating skills will be thoroughly tested this summer.
