Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has courted controversy by throwing his support behind Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, just days before Arsenal travel to Anfield for a crucial Premier League clash.
Arsenal face Liverpool on Sunday in a high-stakes encounter, with both sides pushing for strong finishes to the season. But before that, all eyes are on Wednesday night’s Champions League semi-final second leg in Paris, where PSG aim to protect a slender 1-0 lead over Mikel Arteta’s Gunners.
Salah, 32, made no secret of his allegiance in the competition, revealing he is backing PSG not only to overcome Arsenal but also to lift the trophy in Munich, where they could face Inter Milan. The Italian giants sealed their place in the final after a dramatic win in the semi-finals.
PSG knocked Liverpool out of the competition in the round of 16 via a penalty shootout, following a tense two-legged affair that saw the French champions bounce back from a 1-0 first-leg defeat to win by the same scoreline at Anfield, before triumphing on spot-kicks.

Speaking to L’Equipe, Salah was full of praise for Luis Enrique’s young side, reflecting on their clash with Liverpool.

“I have to be honest—PSG had a very good first leg. We were lucky that day,” Salah admitted. “Alisson had probably his best game for Liverpool. PSG were unlucky then. In the return leg, we hit the post a few times, they made goal-line clearances. We were unlucky too.
“In this match, everything was 50/50. Who deserved to qualify more? No one could say. They had a great first leg; we had a great second leg. And in the end, penalties decided it. Sometimes it’s your day, sometimes it’s theirs. It was their day.

“No one can say they deserved it 100 per cent. It was just one of those ties. I congratulated them afterward and told them, ‘Go win it!’ That was it.”
Mohamed Salah also reflected on Liverpool’s season, admitting their dip in form in March came at a bad time. “We were in great form all season, but in March, we had a slump. At the same time, PSG were peaking. It was a meeting point.”
PSG have received widespread acclaim for their performances in the latter stages of the tournament, having seen off Aston Villa in the quarter-finals. However, Arsenal are determined to turn things around in Paris and keep their European dream alive.
