Arsenal are poised to transition 18-year-old star Myles Lewis-Skelly from left-back to his natural midfield role next season, prompted by the expected departures of Oleksandr Zinchenko and Kieran Tierney.

The Athletic reports that both players are likely to leave, with Zinchenko attracting interest from multiple clubs and Tierney set to rejoin Celtic on a free transfer.

To address the left-back vacancy, Arsenal are targeting Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso, per Tuttomercatoweb, allowing Lewis-Skelly to return to midfield, where he excelled in the academy.

Lewis-Skelly, who debuted for Arsenal in September 2024, has impressed at left-back, making 26 appearances this season, including a standout performance in a 5-1 win over Manchester City, where he scored.

His inverted role, mirroring Zinchenko’s, showcased his technical ability and ball-carrying, earning comparisons to Mousa Dembele from Declan Rice, per The Independent. However, youth coaches, including Jack Wilshere, always envisioned him as a midfielder, with his 2022-23 FA Youth Cup campaign highlighting his box-to-box prowess.

Mikel Arteta’s decision to deploy Lewis-Skelly at left-back was tactical, addressing an injury crisis and leveraging his midfield instincts to invert.

With Zinchenko and Tierney’s exits looming, and Riccardo Calafiori established, a new left-back signing would free Lewis-Skelly to compete for a midfield spot, especially with Thomas Partey and Jorginho’s contracts expiring.

For Arsenal fans, Lewis-Skelly’s potential shift is exciting. His athleticism, 94% pass accuracy against PSV, and ability to drive through lines, make him a candidate for the No. 8 or No. 6 role alongside Rice and Martin Zubimendi.

As Arsenal chase Premier League and Champions League glory, Lewis-Skelly’s versatility and homegrown status could define their midfield future.
