Mikel Arteta has showered praise on Kai Havertz, revealing the Arsenal striker has “destroyed all the metrics” in the club’s gym during his recovery from a hamstring injury.

The German forward, sidelined since February 2025, is poised for a dramatic return against Newcastle on May 18, smashing expectations and setting new benchmarks at London Colney.

Havertz, Arsenal’s top Premier League scorer with nine goals in 21 appearances, suffered a torn hamstring during a Dubai training camp, initially expected to rule him out for the season.

However, Arteta told reporters on May 16 that Havertz’s relentless work ethic and physical transformation have rewritten the club’s fitness records. “He’s destroyed all the metrics we had in the gym for the last 10 years,” Arteta said, per The Guardian. “Power, acceleration, muscle mass, agility—he’s been incredible.”

The 25-year-old’s return is a massive boost for Arsenal, who’ve struggled without a recognized striker. Gabriel Jesus’s knee injury and Mikel Merino’s suspension forced Arteta to experiment, with Gabriel Martinelli filling in up top.

Havertz’s versatility—able to play as a No. 9 or attacking midfielder—makes him vital, especially with a tight race for second place and Champions League qualification at stake.

Arteta emphasised Havertz’s “unbelievable mindset” and “goal threat,” noting his physical presence has reached a “different level.”

Social media buzzed with excitement, with fans on X marvelling at his dedication. His rehab, supported by Arsenal’s medical staff, saw him back in training by May 14, far ahead of schedule. Arteta credited the staff’s collaboration, saying, “They’ve been pushing each other.”

As Arsenal face Newcastle, Havertz’s potential cameo could shift momentum. Arteta’s comments signal a bright future for the former Chelsea star, whose record-breaking recovery underscores his importance to the Gunners’ ambitions.

With a summer striker hunt looming, Havertz’s return proves he’s still Arteta’s main man.
