Fabrizio Romano confirms ‘experienced’ Arsenal star has already agreed to join another club this summer

Renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano has dropped another bombshell on the future of one experienced Arsenal star at the Emirates Stadium.

With the summer transfer window just around the corner, so many top names have been linked to the exit doors, even as the club reviews its transfer policy, which is built around young, energetic players.

One of the names confirmed to depart the club, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, is Italian midfielder Jorginho, who is poised to leave the club this summer after agreeing to a three-year deal with Brazilian side Flamengo.

The 33-year-old’s departure marks the end of his two-and-a-half-year tenure with the Gunners, during which he has made 78 appearances for the club.

Jorginho joined Arsenal from Chelsea in January 2023 for a fee of £12m, and his experience and quality have been valuable assets to Mikel Arteta’s side. However, with the club opting not to exercise the 12-month contract extension clause, Jorginho will depart on a free transfer in July.

Despite being close to returning from a lung injury sustained during the 1-1 draw against Brentford last month, Jorginho’s impending departure has prompted Arsenal to seek a replacement. According to reports, the Gunners have reached an agreement to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, with the 26-year-old’s €60m (£51m) release clause expected to be triggered.

Zubimendi’s playing style bears similarities to Jorginho’s, with a preference for deep-lying midfield roles and exceptional passing range. While Real Madrid has been rumoured to be interested in hijacking the deal, all indications point towards Zubimendi joining Arsenal in the coming weeks.

Although Jorginho might not feature in the match against PSG on Wednesday, he could potentially return to the bench for the game against Liverpool this weekend. As the Gunners prepare to face PSG, the news of Jorginho’s departure and Zubimendi’s potential arrival will likely have significant implications for the team’s midfield dynamics.

With Arteta’s side vying for a spot in the Champions League final, the Italian manager will need to carefully consider his team’s composition and strategy to overcome the French giants.

In the midst of these developments, Arsenal fans will be eager to see how the team responds to the news and whether the potential signing of Zubimendi can bolster their chances of success in the Champions League.
