Arsenal midfielder Jorginho is set to leave the club this summer, with a deal in place for him to join Brazilian side Flamengo on a free transfer. The 33-year-old will depart the Emirates at the end of his contract, bringing an end to his one-and-a-half-year spell in North London.

Jorginho has played a vital role since arriving from Chelsea in January 2023, offering leadership, composure, and experience in midfield. However, with Arsenal opting not to renew his deal, the Italy international is preparing for a return to his country of birth—Brazil—for the first time in his professional career.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the move, revealing that Arsenal have given Jorginho the green light to join Flamengo early so he can feature in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup. The tournament kicks off on June 14, and Jorginho will be available for Flamengo’s opening fixture against Tunisian champions Esperance de Tunis on June 16.

Flamengo will also face Chelsea—Jorginho’s former club—in Philadelphia on June 20. The midfielder made 213 appearances for the Blues, scoring 29 goals and providing eight assists during a successful four-and-a-half-year stint. He won four major honours with Chelsea, including the UEFA Champions League and the Club World Cup.

Flamengo are managed by former Chelsea left-back Filipe Luis, who took charge in September and has already led the team to Brazilian Cup and Super Cup triumphs. Jorginho’s arrival adds further pedigree to the squad as they gear up for the expanded Club World Cup.

This season, Jorginho made 27 appearances across all competitions for Arsenal. He recently returned to action in the Gunners’ win over Newcastle after recovering from a lung injury that kept him out for several weeks.
