David Seaman hits out at Jamie Carragher over premature Arsenal comments

Arsenal legend David Seaman has firmly dismissed Jamie Carragher’s recent claims that Declan Rice could begin to question his future at the Emirates if the Gunners endure another trophyless season.
Rice joined Arsenal in a high-profile £100 million move from West Ham in 2023, beating off competition from Manchester City to become the club’s record signing. Since his arrival, the 26-year-old has quickly cemented his place as a key figure under Mikel Arteta and a fan favourite in north London.
Despite his impressive performances, Rice has yet to win major silverware with Arsenal, aside from last year’s Community Shield. His Europa Conference League triumph with West Ham remains the only significant trophy of his career so far.
In light of Arsenal’s latest setback in their bid for silverware, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher recently suggested that doubts could start to creep in for Rice if next season follows a similar pattern.

Echoing Carragher’s remarks, Rio Ferdinand also warned that Rice might get “itchy feet” if Arsenal fail to deliver trophies again next term.
However, Seaman has strongly rejected the notion, calling Carragher’s comments premature and unfounded.

“Wow. So we’ve not even finished this season and he’s talking about Arsenal not doing anything next season… and then someone that might leave!” Seaman said on his Seaman Says podcast. “Let’s get Uri Geller on and ask him!”
The former England goalkeeper stressed that Arsenal are a team on the rise and backed Rice to play a leading role in their future success.

“I can’t believe Carragher said something like that because I’m excited about next season with Arsenal,” Seaman continued. “They’re getting better and better. They’re contending consistently.
“I said at the start of the season that if you finish above Manchester City, you win the league—and then Liverpool came into the mix. We ended up playing PSG, a fantastic team. Declan will stay. There’s no problem, not at all.”
Seaman also couldn’t resist a final joke at the end of the segment, saying: “He can do what he did at West Ham—win a trophy and then leave!”
With Arsenal showing clear progress under Arteta, Seaman believes Rice is committed for the long haul—and not thinking of jumping ship any time soon.
