Respected journalist David Ornstein has revealed that Arsenal are likely to make a high-profile striker signing this summer, with the club expected to choose between RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres.
Speaking on NBC Sports, The Athletic reporter confirmed that the Gunners are firmly in the market for a marquee centre-forward to bolster their attacking options ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
“They’ve got a decision to make between Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig and Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting Lisbon — both fantastic options and talents,” Ornstein said. “I do expect one of them to come into the Emirates Stadium this summer.”

Arsenal have reportedly tabled an offer of €70 million (£58.7 million) for Gyokeres, though Portuguese champions Sporting are expected to demand significantly more for the prolific Swede, who netted a remarkable 54 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions this season. That includes six Champions League goals, with a hat-trick against Manchester City highlighting his ability to perform on the biggest stage.

While Gyokeres remains the more explosive of the two targets, Sesko has also impressed in the Bundesliga, scoring 21 goals in a breakout campaign with Leipzig. At just 21, the Slovenian forward offers long-term potential and could be a more financially viable option should a deal for Gyokeres prove too costly.

Arsenal’s pursuit of a top-tier striker comes after another season without silverware. Despite a strong title push, Mikel Arteta’s side ultimately finished second in the Premier League, falling short of the firepower needed to overcome Liverpool. Notably, no Arsenal player reached double figures in league goals during the 2024/25 season.
The expected arrival of either Sesko or Gyokeres would address that glaring weakness and significantly enhance Arsenal’s attacking threat. With Sporting director Andrea Berta now overseeing recruitment, the Gunners are set to back Arteta with major reinforcements — and a statement signing up front could be key to mounting a successful title challenge next season.
