Arsenal are keeping a close eye on Real Madrid Castilla defender Victor Valdepeñas, with the teenage prospect reportedly on the club’s shortlist as part of their long-term recruitment strategy.

Following another season without silverware, the Gunners are expected to be active in the upcoming transfer window. Mikel Arteta’s side are targeting key reinforcements for the first team—particularly in the striker position—but are also planning for the future, and Valdepeñas has emerged as a player of serious interest.

According to Sky Germany, Arsenal are monitoring the 18-year-old’s development and availability, although other European clubs are also believed to be tracking the Spain youth international.

Valdepeñas, who joined Real Madrid from Leganés in 2022, is currently playing for Madrid’s Castilla and C teams. Despite not yet making his senior debut for Los Blancos, he is viewed as one of the most promising young defenders in Spain. His versatility is a key asset—while primarily a centre-back, Valdepeñas is also capable of playing at left-back, wing-back, or even in midfield.

Born in Madrid, he was initially part of Real’s youth academy before a brief stint at Leganés. Since returning to the capital, he has impressed with his physicality and composure on the ball. Spanish outlet Relevo has even compared his development path and style to former Real Madrid full-back Achraf Hakimi, now at Paris Saint-Germain.

Though Arsenal are focused on strengthening their senior squad for an expected title push next season, the club remains committed to nurturing future stars. The potential signing of Valdepeñas would be in line with their model of developing young talent to eventually break into the first team.

Arsenal still have two fixtures remaining this season, starting with a crucial clash against Newcastle United at the Emirates. The Magpies are just two points behind Arsenal in the table, and a positive result would keep second place in the Gunners’ control heading into the final game away at Southampton.

Once the season concludes, full attention will turn to the transfer window—where Arsenal will look to balance immediate needs with long-term ambitions.
