Arsenal to rival Manchester City for Juventus left-back as Mikel Arteta makes decision on Myles Lewis-Skelly

Arsenal are preparing to make a move for Juventus left-back Andrea Cambiaso, with the Italian emerging as a surprise target for Mikel Arteta ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports from Tuttomercatoweb.

The Gunners are expected to push for a deal early in the window, which officially opens in June, as Arteta looks to reinforce the left-back position. Cambiaso, 25, has been described as “one of the best left-backs in the world” and is highly regarded for his versatility, capable of playing on both flanks—a quality that fits perfectly into Arteta’s tactical setup.

Manchester City came close to securing Cambiaso’s signature in January, with a deal initially valued at £75 million, though it ultimately fell through. However, the price tag is now expected to drop to around £50–£55 million, potentially making the move more feasible this time around.

Arteta is planning significant changes at left-back, with Oleksandr Zinchenko and Kieran Tierney both poised to leave the club. The Athletic reports that Zinchenko has attracted interest from several clubs, while Tierney is expected to rejoin Celtic on a free transfer.

Arsenal’s pursuit of Cambiaso is also linked to the development of 18-year-old Myles Lewis-Skelly. The teenager, who debuted for Arsenal in September 2024, has impressed while filling in at left-back this season, making 26 appearances and scoring in the 5-1 victory over Manchester City. Despite excelling in an inverted role similar to Zinchenko’s, Lewis-Skelly is naturally a midfielder, and the club plans to transition him back to his preferred position next season.

Youth coaches, including Jack Wilshere, have long championed Lewis-Skelly’s midfield potential, with his dynamic performances in the 2022–23 FA Youth Cup underscoring his box-to-box abilities. Arteta’s decision to use him at left-back this season was a tactical response to an injury crisis, utilising his midfield instincts to aid in buildup play.

With Zinchenko and Tierney’s expected departures and Riccardo Calafiori already established in the squad, Arsenal are keen to sign a new left-back to free Lewis-Skelly for midfield duties—particularly as Thomas Partey and Jorginho approach the end of their contracts.

Should Arsenal move ahead with their pursuit, they are likely to face stiff competition from Manchester City. Juventus, meanwhile, have begun planning for Andrea Cambiaso ’s potential exit, targeting Girona’s Miguel Gutierrez as his replacement.
