Arsenal’s quest to bolster their attacking options has led to renewed interest in Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku, with reports suggesting the Gunners are set to pursue the 27-year-old Frenchman in the summer transfer window.

According to RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins, Arsenal, alongside Bayern Munich, previously showed interest in January and are expected to revisit their pursuit, as Nkunku seeks a move to a club offering consistent UEFA Champions League football.

Nkunku’s situation at Chelsea has fueled speculation. Despite scoring 16 goals in 43 appearances for the Blues, including 13 under Enzo Maresca this season, he has struggled for regular starts, with 18 of his 27 Premier League outings coming off the bench.

His frustration, coupled with Chelsea’s reported willingness to part ways for a fee around €75m (£64.4m), has alerted Arsenal, who see him as a versatile solution to their attacking needs. Posts on X echo this sentiment, highlighting Arsenal’s interest as a potential game-changer for their squad.

Mikel Arteta’s side, currently navigating an injury crisis with Kai Havertz and Gabriel Magalhães sidelined, could benefit from Nkunku’s ability to play as a false nine or across the front line, a role he excelled in at RB Leipzig.

His proven track record in the Bundesliga makes him an attractive option to complement Arsenal’s dynamic attack, especially with Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard carrying the load. However, competition from Bayern Munich, who lack a backup for Harry Kane, poses a challenge.

Arsenal’s cautious approach in January, opting against a mid-season move, suggests a strategic plan to strengthen their hand for the summer, as noted by Arteta.

With Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu also facing injury concerns, Nkunku’s departure could hinge on Chelsea’s squad planning. For Arsenal fans, Nkunku represents an exciting prospect to elevate their Champions League ambitions, but securing his signature will require navigating a competitive transfer market.
