Arsenal have stepped up their pursuit of Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres by offering the Swedish international a five-year contract, according to multiple reports.

The 26-year-old has emerged as the Gunners’ number one centre forward target ahead of the summer transfer window, with reports revealing that fresh talks were planned after Sporting’s Portuguese cup final on Sunday.

Following Sporting’s 3-1 victory over Benfica in the Taca de Portugal final, transfer expert Nicolo Schira reported that Arsenal have tabled a deal that would keep Gyokeres at the Emirates until 2030. Negotiations are ongoing with the player’s representatives as the north London club look to secure his signature.

Sporting are expected to demand around €65 million (£60 million) for the prolific forward, who is widely tipped to leave Lisbon this summer after a sensational campaign. Gyokeres has netted an extraordinary 97 goals in just 102 appearances since joining from Coventry City in 2023.

Speaking after the cup final, the striker remained coy about his future: “Let us see. It’s hard for me to say, because yeah it is football and you never know what’s going to happen in the summer. So for me to say anything else than that is impossible.”

When asked specifically about Arsenal’s interest, he added: “I don’t know, I just focus on this. I’ve tried to focus on the last games because it’s so important and I don’t want to think about anything else. So yeah, if anything is true, let’s see in the summer.”

Arsenal are believed to be confident of landing Gyokeres if they meet Sporting’s valuation. According to Mirror Football, the club is prepared to offer the forward over £200,000 per week as Mikel Arteta seeks a prolific goal scorer to boost Arsenal’s Premier League title ambitions next season.
