Arsenal have reportedly tabled an opening bid for Sporting CP’s prolific striker Viktor Gyokeres as they look to secure a marquee signing ahead of the 2025–26 season, amid fears that Chelsea could hijack the deal.
Following another underwhelming campaign, the Gunners are desperate to reinforce their attack and finally address their long-standing need for a clinical centre-forward. According to Portuguese outlet Correio da Manhã, Arsenal have submitted an initial offer of €75 million (£63 million) for Gyokeres, who has been in sensational form for Sporting.

However, Sporting president Frederico Varandas is said to view the bid as merely a starting point, with the club determined to hold out for a higher fee. Gyokeres’ release clause stands at around €100 million (£85m/$112m), and the Lisbon club is hoping to spark a bidding war—particularly amid concerns that Chelsea may swoop in with a more substantial offer.

Both Arsenal and Chelsea are in dire need of a top-class striker, and Gyokeres, widely regarded as one of Europe’s most lethal forwards, would represent a transformative addition for either side. The Swedish international has also attracted attention from Manchester United, further intensifying the battle for his signature.

Arsenal, who have struggled with attacking inefficiency at key moments in recent seasons, are determined to secure Gyokeres as they seek to mount a serious title challenge next term. The 26-year-old would offer a significant upgrade on the club’s current forward options and could be pivotal in their quest for silverware.
Chelsea, meanwhile, are looking to bolster their frontline after an inconsistent campaign from Nicolas Jackson. The Blues are pushing to secure Champions League qualification, which could prove crucial in their efforts to lure Gyokeres to Stamford Bridge.
Arsenal face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday in their penultimate match of the season, with eyes already turning toward the summer rebuild.
