Arsenal Women forward Chloe Kelly has identified two of her current teammates as potential top-level football managers, citing their standout leadership qualities on and off the pitch.
Since joining Arsenal on loan from Manchester City in January, Kelly has swiftly re-established herself at the club where she once rose through the youth ranks. Her return came with expectations, and despite initial scepticism surrounding her loan move, the England Euro 2022 hero has silenced doubters with her impactful performances.
Many questioned whether Kelly would earn sufficient playing time, particularly with Arsenal already boasting an elite trio of wingers in Beth Mead, Mariona Caldentey, and Caitlin Foord. Having logged just 165 minutes in the Women’s Super League at City this season, there were valid concerns. But the 26-year-old has since become an indispensable figure in Renee Slegers’ squad.

Kelly’s return to Arsenal has felt less like a new signing and more like a natural homecoming. Her influence has grown rapidly, and she’s added balance, creativity, and cutting edge to the side—proving City’s decision to sideline her was a miscalculation.

Speaking to Arsenal’s official website ahead of their UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-final second leg against Lyon, Kelly was asked which players she believes could make the leap into management in the future.

“I’d probably say Katie,” Kelly responded. “She’s very direct in her leadership and she drives standards every day at training. But Kim is also a real leader within the group, so she could definitely be a manager one day. Two very different styles, but two people who would make great managers.”

Chloe Kelly has been a revelation in north London, averaging 3.8 shots, 5.8 crosses, and 2.4 chances created per match in WSL play. Her versatility has even seen her deployed in a more central role, showcasing her creative spark in Arsenal’s recent 4-0 rout of Crystal Palace.
Her form aligns perfectly with head coach Slegers’ attacking philosophy. The Gunners now sit level with Chelsea for total goals scored in the league and have outscored every other team by at least nine goals in 2025. Their expected goals (xG) figure of 10.8 tops the league, and their threat from set pieces—where Kelly has emerged as a regular taker—has been unmatched.
