Arsenal should turn attention to signing Real Madrid forward Rodrygo this summer.
The Gunners are likely to make multiple changes to the squad. A marquee striker and a versatile forward could be among the priorities for the manager.
Mikel Arteta is reportedly a big fan of Rodrygo, and the door could open for his surprise exit from Madrid with their interest in signing Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams.
As per Marca, Madrid are tempted to trigger Williams’ £49 million release clause. A deal makes commercial appeal and would suit their young recruitment policy.
The arrival of Williams at the Bernabeu could pave the way for Rodrygo’s summer departure. In our view, Arsenal may consider the situation as a market opportunity.
The Gunners also hold a long-term interest in Williams, but Athletic’s reluctance to negotiate on the buy-out clause means the club are reluctant to make an approach.
Arsenal are keen to stay well within the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and paying his £49m release clause in a single payment does not represent good business.
Rodrygo could emerge as a genuine target if Madrid were to recruit Williams. Los Blancos may ideally want the Spaniard in time for next month’s Club World Cup.
Arsenal need to bolster their wide attacking department. There has been an over-reliance on Bukayo Saka on the right wing while Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli have been inconsistent on the left.
Rodrgyo, who has registered 13 goals and 10 assists this campaign, would be a fabulous addition to the squad. He can play on the right or left wing or as a main striker.
The 24-year-old has been a key contributors in terms of goals and assists, but also possesses good dribbling skills and has a tireless work rate over 90 minutes.
His passing range is surprisingly incredible for a wide player. Rodrygo has completed 91 percent of his passes for Madrid in the Spanish top-flight this campaign.
He has a Transfermarkt value of £84 million, but could be signed for less. Arsenal can take advantage of Madrid’s pursuit of Williams to secure a reasonable discount.
Most importantly, the club have the opportunity to negotiate a long-term payment plan.
