Arsenal loanee Albert Sambi Lokonga has been dealt another blow during his loan spell at Sevilla, suffering a fourth hamstring injury this season.
The 25-year-old Belgian midfielder, who joined the Spanish side in the summer of 2024, is now expected to miss 4-6 weeks, potentially ruling him out for the remainder of the 2024/25 La Liga campaign. The news, confirmed by Sevilla today has sparked concerns over Lokonga’s fitness and future.
Lokonga’s latest setback – a serious injury to his right thigh – was announced shortly after Sevilla’s 2-1 loss to Real Madrid. The club had previously sent him to Qatar in October 2024 to consult a specialist in hopes of addressing his recurring hamstring issues, but the intervention appears to have been unsuccessful.

This marks his third hamstring injury since arriving in Spain, with the midfielder already enduring a disrupted season. Despite the setbacks, Lokonga had shown promise, racking up over 1,200 minutes, two assists, and 16 appearances when fit.
The injury raises questions about Lokonga’s long-term prospects. Sevilla hold a €10 million option to buy with a 25% sell-on clause, and the midfielder has expressed a desire to stay, feeling La Liga suits his style better than the Premier League.

However, his injury record might deter a permanent move, especially as other Spanish clubs have reportedly shown interest. Arsenal, who signed Lokonga from Anderlecht for £17 million in 2021, seem ready to offload him, with no place in Mikel Arteta’s plans after lackluster loan spells at Crystal Palace and Luton Town.
For Arsenal fans, this is a disappointing update on a player once tipped for greatness. Lokonga’s 39 appearances for the Gunners showed flashes of talent, but his inability to stay fit has stalled his career. As Sevilla assess their options, Lokonga faces a crucial recovery period to prove his worth, both to his loan club and potential suitors, before the summer transfer window.
