Arsenal open to selling star winger this summer to pave way for new signing

Leandro Trossard’s future at Arsenal hangs in the balance as contract negotiations falter and Saudi interest intensifies. The Athletic reports that Arsenal’s attempts to extend the 30-year-old Belgian’s contract, set to expire in June 2026, have stalled, with Trossard rejecting a one-year extension offer.

With only 12 months left on his deal by summer, the Gunners may consider offers to avoid losing him for free in 2026, per The Mirror’s John Cross.

Trossard, who joined Arsenal from Brighton in January 2023 for £27m, has been a vital squad player, contributing 10 goals and eight assists in 51 appearances this season.

His versatility and knack for decisive moments, like his brace in a 4-0 win over Ipswich, have endeared him to Mikel Arteta. However, persistent interest from Saudi Pro League clubs, notably Al-Ittihad, who offered a €35m (£29m) deal in September 2024, rejected by Arsenal, per The Athletic, poses a threat.

Football Insider notes Saudi clubs are circling again, eyeing Trossard’s experience to bolster their squads.

Arteta values Trossard’s mentality, praising his ability to impact games whether starting or substituting, as seen in his comments after a Villa Park goal: “Leo is upset but channels it to show how good he is.” Yet, Trossard’s frustration at not securing a regular starting role, evident in his muted celebrations, fuels speculation.

Posts on X from @SamiMokbel_BBC suggest a summer exit could fund a new left winger, with Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams linked.

For Arsenal fans, losing Trossard would be a blow, given his reliability amid injuries to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.

With new sporting director Andrea Berta overseeing transfers, the club faces a critical decision: secure a new deal or capitalise on Saudi interest to reinvest in the squad for their Premier League and Champions League ambitions.
