Arsenal make surprise enquiry for Man Utd winger Antony

Arsenal will likely make several additions to their squad during the summer transfer window.

A marquee striker will be the main priority, but the Gunners could also pursue a new winger.

UOL Esporte now claim that Arsenal have made a surprise approach for Manchester United outcast Antony.

The Brazil international joined Real Betis on loan from the Red Devils during the last transfer window.

He has made good progress at the Andalusian outfit, scoring six goals and providing four assists.

UOL claim that Arsenal and Atletico Madrid ‘have been asking’ about the 24-year-old recently.

The Red Devils could sanction his sale for between £26 million to £34 million this summer.

Clubs are unlikely to pay a higher sum, considering United are ‘very much’ open to negotiations.

Antony to Arsenal speculation could be agent-driven

Antony has turned his fortunes around since his move to Betis on loan. He has managed 10 goal contributions from just 17 appearances in all competitions.

Despite this, we would be surprised if Arsenal consider an offer. Antony is a specialist right winger but he has barely made an impact from the left side of the attack.

The Brazilian has been fantastic for Betis over the past few months, but has failed to prove his credentials in English football. He has just 12 goals and five assists from 96 outings for United.

The former Ajax man has struggled to cope with the higher intensity and physicality of the Premier League. His reluctance to cross with his weaker right foot has made him one dimensional.

In our view, the speculation linking Arsenal could be agent-driven. With Atletico also keen, his representative could be using the Gunners as a negotiation tool to speed up talks with the Madrid giants.

Arsenal presently have Bukayo Saka as an undisputed starter on the right wing when fit and firing. Ethan Nwaneri has shown that he can provide good backup off the bench.

The Gunners could pursue a versatile winger who has a preference for the left flank. Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams would be a perfect acquisition for the Gunners this summer.
