Arsenal keeping tabs on Velez Sarsfield forward Maher Carrizo

Arsenal are one of the Premier League clubs interested in signing Velez Sarsfield forward Maher Carrizo, according to Argentine outfit Velez Digital.

The versatile 19-year-old has caught the attention of the Gunners and the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers after impressing in the Argentine Primera Division and CONMEBOL Libertadores – the South American version of the Champions League – this season.

Arsenal want to bolster their attacking ranks this summer, but it remains to be seen whether Carrizo has what it takes to make an instant impact in Europe should they sign him this summer despite his return of four goals and one assist in five continental games.

Man City want to and has already met with his representatives as they eye activating his €16 million release clause, and the North London club cannot afford to miss out on such a gem given his huge potential.

The teenage sensation is predominantly a left-footer and an inside forward, but can play on the right wing, behind the striker and as a number 9, with his pace, technique, close control, dribbling, finishing and athleticism some of his major strengths.

Man City signed a hidden gem in Argentine striker Julian Alvarez from River Plate under the noses of their Premier League rivals and are hoping to do the same with Carrizo.

The Gunners have to ensure that does not happen as he has the talent to take Europe by storm, and landing him for just €16m could turn out to be a steal if he hits the ground running.

Such shrewd signings could make all the difference going forward as recruiting the popular European forwards now costs an arm and a leg, and the South American market is one Arsenal have to start paying attention to given the number of talents across the continent.
