Arsenal interested in signing Sporting CP winger Francisco Trincao

Arsenal are poised to make several signings during the summer transfer window.
A marquee striker is the main priority for the Gunners, but the club could also pursue a versatile winger.
Record (page 1&2) today claim that Arsenal are keen on signing Francisco Trincao from Sporting CP this summer.
The Portugal international is attracting interest from three Premier League clubs, but the Gunners are only highlighted.
Arsenal have sent officials to monitor his performances on several occasions this season.
The trio are willing to pay Trincao around £2.55 million per year after tax.
The winger has two years remaining on his contract, which includes a £51 million release clause.
Sporting CP still hope to convince him to stay with an improved contract.
Trincao speculation could be agent-driven
The Gunners need more quality in the wide attacking departments ahead of next season.
Bukayo Saka has been tremendous from the right wing with regular goal contributions, but his workload needs to be managed in future to avoid the prospect of injuries.
Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard have shared the duties on the left wing. Both have had stand-out moments, but their inconsistency in front of goal is a concern.
Manager Mikel Arteta may want another versatile winger ahead of next season.
The Spaniard is a huge admirer of Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, who has managed 18 goal contributions from 44 appearances in all competitions this term.
Williams has a release clause worth £51m in his contract, but the main roadblock for the Gunners could be his wages, considering he is already on £170,000 per week.
Arsenal continue to be linked with alternative targets. Trincao has been a revelation for Sporting CP this campaign, with nine goals and 18 assists in all competitions.
The club are interested in signing the 25-year-old, but the speculation could be agent-driven.
The Gunners are reportedly best placed to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres. Trincao’s representatives could be trying to broker the winger’s move to north London too.
Trincao has been more consistent with his goal involvements over the last year, but he is less effective from the left wing where the Gunners require more quality.
In our view, Williams would be a better fit, having made the position his own at Bilbao this term. A deal could be on the cards if his wage demands are not exorbitant.
