Arsenal fans are buzzing with anticipation as the club nears a blockbuster move for Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, with transfer expert David Ornstein providing a significant update on April 23, 2025.

According to Ornstein, Arsenal are “acting internally as if the Martin Zubimendi deal is a done deal,” signaling that the Gunners are supremely confident of securing the 26-year-old midfielder’s signature by the summer.

This development marks a pivotal step in Mikel Arteta’s mission to bolster Arsenal’s midfield for a Premier League title challenge and Champions League glory.

Zubimendi, a composed and tactically astute defensive midfielder, has long been Arteta’s top target, with his ability to control games and break up play drawing comparisons to Spain’s Rodri. With Thomas Partey and Jorginho’s contracts expiring in June 2025, Arsenal face a midfield overhaul, and Zubimendi’s arrival would provide stability alongside Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard.

David Ornstein reported Arsenal are prepared to trigger Zubimendi’s €60 million (£52 million) release clause, though they may negotiate a higher fee for flexible payment terms.

Despite interest from Real Madrid, David Ornstein has dismissed rumors of a potential hijack, stating, “I personally haven’t heard this,” and affirming Arsenal’s expectation that Zubimendi will join.

This follows months of groundwork by interim sporting director Jason Ayto and outgoing Edu, with incoming director Andrea Berta set to finalize the deal. Posts on X echo the optimism, with fans proclaiming the transfer as “essentially secured.”

Zubimendi’s signing could reshape Arsenal’s midfield, allowing Rice to play a more advanced role and enhancing the team’s attacking fluidity. While concerns linger about Zubimendi’s athleticism in transitions, Arteta’s robust defensive structure should mitigate any weaknesses.

As the summer window approaches, Arsenal’s proactive approach positions them to land a player who could be the final piece in their title-contending puzzle, with Ornstein’s update fueling excitement at the Emirates.
