Arsenal emerge as the ‘strongest bidder’ for Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez

Arsenal are poised to sign a marquee striker during this summer’s transfer window.
The Gunners had a disappointing 2024/25 Premier League campaign. They finished 10 points behind champions Liverpool.
The lack of a specialist striker was an obvious concern. The club played out 14 draws throughout the league campaign.
The club must address their goalscoring woes with a marquee number nine, and Marca claim that Julian Alvarez is on their radar.
The Spanish outlet say that Liverpool have already sounded out their interest in signing the 25-year-old.
However, Arsenal have emerged as the ‘strongest bidder’ for the Argentine, who has netted 29 goals in his debut Atletico season.
Sporting director Andrea Berta knows exactly what Alvarez can offer and has put his name on the priority list of targets this summer.
Alvarez would be a superb signing for Arsenal
The 25-year-old joined Atletico from Manchester City for an initial £64.4 million last summer. The deal could rise to £81m with add-ons.
Alvarez has made an instant impact for the Madrid giants with 36 goal contributions. The Argentine has missed only seven big chances in La Liga.
He has been exceptional with his finishing and positioning around the box. The striker has likewise excelled with his work rate and link-up play.
Alvarez would be a superb acquisition for Arsenal, who need a goal poacher. However, the big question is whether they can persuade Atletico to make a sale.
The Gunners may have to offer more than £100m to test Atletico’s resolve. It would be worth the investment, given Alvarez’s league experience.
Unlike new signings from abroad, Alvarez has already adapted to the Premier League from his time at Manchester City. He could seamlessly fit in at Arsenal.
Berta, who spent eight years as Atletico’s sporting director, played a big part in Alvarez’s signing. He appears keen on a reunion in north London next term.
