Arsenal are ramping up their efforts to sign Bournemouth’s highly-rated defender Dean Huijsen ahead of the summer transfer window, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. The Gunners face competition from Premier League rivals Liverpool and Chelsea, but Mikel Arteta’s side are reportedly among the most determined suitors.

Huijsen, 20, has enjoyed a breakout season at the Vitality Stadium under Andoni Iraola and is seen as one of the most promising young defenders in Europe. The Spanish international is expected to leave Bournemouth this summer, with a reported £50 million release clause in his contract likely to be tested by top clubs.

Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, confirmed Arsenal’s active interest: “Don’t forget about Arsenal, because Arsenal are also pushing. Mikel Arteta wants one more top defender to add to the package. So, for sure, Arsenal are there – along with Chelsea and Liverpool.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal appear to be closing in on their top midfield target, Martin Zubimendi. According to David Ornstein, the club is “acting internally as if the Martin Zubimendi deal is a done deal,” reflecting growing confidence that the Real Sociedad star will arrive at the Emirates this summer.

Zubimendi, who has drawn comparisons to Spain and Manchester City’s Rodri for his composed style and tactical intelligence, has long been admired by Arteta. With the contracts of Thomas Partey and Jorginho set to expire in 2025, the 26-year-old would bring much-needed stability alongside Declan Rice and Martin Ødegaard.

Arsenal are reportedly ready to trigger Zubimendi’s €60 million (£52 million) release clause, though they may attempt to negotiate more favorable payment terms. Despite interest from Real Madrid, Ornstein has dismissed speculation of a hijack attempt, saying, “I personally haven’t heard this,” and reinforcing Arsenal’s belief that they are in pole position.

The potential arrival of Zubimendi comes after months of groundwork led by interim sporting director Jason Ayto and outgoing Edu, with newly appointed Andrea Berta expected to finalize the transfer.
