Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is a fan of Real Madrid forward Rodrygo, but finances could hinder deal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is a fan of Real Madrid forward Rodrygo, but getting a deal done would be challenging given the finances it would cost, according to The Athletic.
The Gunners are open to adding a winger to their attack this summer as they look to mount a stronger challenge across all competitions next season, but they may need to sell one of their current wingers to bring in another one.
Rodrygo is an option, but Arsenal also have Athletic Bilbao forward Nico Williams and Borussia Dortmund emerging star Jamie Gittens on their radar.
The Brazilian is believed to be open to leaving Madrid as he is being played out of position because of Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior, and joining the North London club could appeal to him if every party involved can make the necessary financial compromise.
Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino admires the 24-year-old Brazilian, recently claiming he is the Madrid player he would like to play with, and is the most fun to watch.
“It’s hard to pick one, but I’d probably say Rodrygo,” the Spaniard told Marca in April.
“I’m not saying he’s underrated, but he’s a player I really like: fast, physical, technical, he has great one-on-one skills, he’s good in space. Very complete.”
While the South American prefers to play on the left side of the attack, where he believes he performs best, he has been deployed on the right and through the middle, and his versatility will come in handy at Arsenal should they land him.
Rodrygo is a good dribbler and finisher, with his passing and ability to hold on to the ball excellent.
The Gunners could do with such an attacker as they look to win the Premier League next season, but whether they are willing to meet the demands of Madrid and the player is unknown, and they may need to look elsewhere for an affordable option.
