Arsenal have identified Lille striker Jonathan David as a potential option in their search for a new centre-forward, with the Canadian international emerging as a possible alternative to top targets Viktor Gyökeres and Benjamin Šeško.

According to The Athletic, David is being monitored by the Gunners ahead of his contract expiry, with the 25-year-old set to leave Lille on a free transfer next month. While Arsenal are aware of his availability, manager Mikel Arteta is said to prefer other options at this stage, with Gyökeres of Sporting CP and RB Leipzig’s Šeško currently ahead in the club’s shortlist.

The Gunners are expected to recruit a new number nine this summer following an inconsistent and injury-hit campaign for both Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus. David’s prolific record this season — 25 goals and 12 assists in 49 appearances — has attracted attention across Europe.

In the Premier League, Liverpool and Aston Villa are among the clubs interested in the former Gent forward. Across Europe, Napoli, Juventus, Inter Milan, Atlético Madrid, and Bayern Munich have also been linked. David’s representatives have recently been spotted in Italy, amid reports that Napoli have already tabled an offer.

Despite David not being Arsenal’s top choice, his free-agent status and strong form make him a viable option should other deals fall through.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s summer plans are already in motion. Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi is expected to be one of the first arrivals at the Emirates, with the Euro 2024 winner reportedly set to join for a fee of around £51 million. He is expected to replace Jorginho, who is close to completing a move to Brazilian side Flamengo.

Sporting Director Andrea Berta is also actively pursuing attacking reinforcements. According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Berta is in discussions over potential deals for Real Madrid winger Rodrygo and Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman. Both players have contributed to over 50 goals between them this season and are considered strong options, though financial constraints may limit the club to signing just one.
