Arsenal have kicked off their summer business early, with preparations underway to bolster the squad while also addressing key contract situations. The Gunners are expected to be active in both the transfer and renewal markets as Mikel Arteta looks to build on this season’s progress.

One of the headline developments involves Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, who is widely tipped to join the North London club in the coming weeks. His arrival would coincide with the expected departure of Italian midfielder Jorginho, who is reportedly set for a move to Brazilian giants Flamengo.

The South American club are aiming to sign the experienced midfielder in time for their FIFA Club World Cup campaign later this year.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have taken a surprise turn regarding Thomas Partey’s future. Initially expected to leave the Emirates when his contract expires this summer, the club have now made a decisive move to keep the Ghanaian midfielder. According to journalist Charles Watts, contract negotiations have intensified this week.

Partey’s agent was in attendance during Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Newcastle United on Sunday, as discussions over a new deal progress. Both sides are said to be keen on reaching an agreement quickly. The 31-year-old is reportedly seeking either an improved two-year deal or a one-year contract with an option for a further year.

Arteta is believed to be eager to retain Partey, whose experience and tactical flexibility have proved invaluable this season. The former Atlético Madrid star has made 51 appearances across all competitions in the current campaign, bouncing back strongly after being limited to just 16 games last season due to injury. His ability to operate in both central midfield and at right-back has added depth and balance to Arteta’s squad.

Partey, who joined Arsenal in 2020 on a five-year deal, is currently attracting interest from Saudi Pro League clubs, who are reportedly willing to offer more lucrative financial terms than Arsenal. Despite this, both the player and the club are said to prefer continuing their partnership—though a compromise on salary and contract length may be necessary.
