Arsenal’s summer transfer window is poised for a major shake-up, being lead by new sporting director Andrea Berta, with AC Milan’s Rafael Leao emerging as a top target.

The 27-year-old Portuguese winger, renowned for his explosive pace and flair, is at the center of Arsenal’s plans to bolster their attack.

On May 24, 2025, Italian outlet Calciomercato reported that Arsenal’s new sporting director, Andrea Berta, has personally spoken to Leao, signaling serious intent to secure his signature. This development underscores Arsenal’s ambition to compete for major silverware next season.

Leao, with 12 goals and 11 assists in 50 appearances for AC Milan this term, is considered one of Europe’s elite wingers. His £150 million release clause has deterred some suitors, but Arsenal, backed by a reported £300 million war chest, are prepared to negotiate.

Football.london notes Andrea Berta admires Leao, with the Gunners prioritising a left-wing upgrade to complement their pursuit of a striker like Viktor Gyokeres or Benjamin Sesko. Leao’s ability to cut in from the left and create goal-scoring opportunities aligns perfectly with Mikel Arteta’s tactical vision.

However, the deal is far from straightforward. Leao reaffirmed his commitment to AC Milan in January 2025, per La Gazzetta dello Sport, and his high wage demands could complicate negotiations.

Chelsea and Barcelona also loom as competitors, though the latter’s financial constraints may limit their pursuit. The Hard Tackle reports that Andrea Berta is leading the chase, leveraging Arsenal’s Champions League status to tempt Leao.

Arteta, dismissing rumors of a rift with Andrea Berta, emphasised their alignment: “We’re clear on what we want.”

While Foot Mercato suggests Leao isn’t Arsenal’s top priority, Berta’s direct talks indicate a strategic push. The Gunners’ failure to secure silverware for a fifth consecutive season has intensified pressure to deliver a statement signing.

If Berta can navigate the financial and competitive hurdles, Leao’s arrival could transform Arsenal’s attack, potentially ending their trophy drought. Fans await further updates as the transfer window nears.
