Myles Lewis-Skelly left ‘shocked’ by one thing Arsenal fans did this season

Arsenal youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly has highlighted one of the most memorable things supporters have done for him this season. The Gunners have entered one of the most crucial weeks of their campaign. While their hopes of lifting the Premier League trophy were dashed by Liverpool’s title triumph, Mikel Arteta’s side still have plenty to fight for — with European glory now firmly in their sights.
The Gunners are preparing for a high-stakes Champions League semi-final against French champions Paris Saint-Germain. The first leg will be played at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday evening, with the return leg to follow next week. Should Arsenal progress, they will face either Barcelona or Inter Milan in next month’s final, offering the North London club a chance to secure their first-ever Champions League title.

While much attention is understandably on the semi-final, the 2024–25 season has also been defined by the remarkable rise of 18-year-old Myles Lewis-Skelly. Few would have predicted at the start of the campaign that Lewis-Skelly would become Arsenal’s first-choice left-back, overtaking established names like Oleksandr Zinchenko and Riccardo Calafiori. Yet his consistent performances have made him a fan favourite at the Emirates.

Lewis-Skelly has delivered several memorable moments this season. Not only has he become a regular fixture in Arteta’s team, but he has also played key roles in Champions League victories — including a standout performance against Real Madrid — and made his senior England debut, marking the occasion with a goal.

Among his many highlights, one moment stands out for Arsenal fans: his goal against Manchester City during a resounding 5-1 win. After scoring, Lewis-Skelly imitated Erling Haaland’s iconic celebration, sending the Emirates crowd into raptures. Fans quickly responded by adapting their famous “49, 49 Undefeated” chant into “49, 49 Lewis-Skelly” in his honour.
Speaking about the new chant in an interview on the club’s YouTube channel, Lewis-Skelly admitted he was taken by surprise. “Oh yeah! I remember hearing it, it was nice,” he said. “I didn’t realise I had a chant, so for them to sing it, it kind of shocked me.”
Lewis-Skelly has made 33 appearances for Arsenal this season, including eight in the Champions League, and has been a crucial part of the club’s European campaign.
