Arsenal transfer target Viktor Gyokeres has remained tight-lipped over his future at Sporting CP, despite intensifying speculation that he could be on the move this summer.

The Swedish striker is reportedly top of Arsenal’s wishlist as the Gunners seek to make a statement signing to lead the line next season. The need for a proven goalscorer has become increasingly urgent at the Emirates after a campaign disrupted by injuries to Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz, leaving Mikel Arteta’s side short of natural No. 9 options during key moments.

Gyokeres, 26, has enjoyed a sensational debut season in Portugal following his move from Coventry City, scoring a staggering 62 goals in 56 appearances across all competitions. His form has drawn attention from top clubs across Europe, but Arsenal — under new sporting director Andrea Berta — appear to be leading the chase.

According to CaughtOffside, negotiations between Arsenal and Sporting are now at an advanced stage. The north London club are believed to have offered Gyokeres a five-year deal worth around £175,000 per week, or roughly £9 million per season. Sporting are expected to demand full payment of his £60 million release clause — a fee Arsenal are reportedly prepared to meet to fend off competition.

Despite the mounting rumours, Gyokeres is refusing to give anything away publicly. Speaking to Sport TV after scoring in Sporting’s 2-0 title-clinching victory over Vitoria SC on Saturday, he said: “It’s football, I’m still here. I don’t know what’s going to happen. Nobody can predict the future.”

Gyokeres could have just one more appearance for Sporting, with the club set to face Benfica in the Portuguese Cup final on May 25. If completed, a move to the Premier League would mark a meteoric rise for the forward, who only left England’s Championship last summer.

While Arsenal are viewed as frontrunners, they face stiff competition. Manchester United and Chelsea are both monitoring the situation, while Liverpool have also expressed interest. United are reportedly preparing a rival bid, while Chelsea are continuing to evaluate their options in attack ahead of a busy summer.
