However, pundits Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker have come to his defense, asserting that the penalty call was justified.

During the game, Havertz’s performance was commendable, with his movements and physicality causing significant trouble for the opposition.

Lineker and Shearer both supported Havertz, arguing that the penalty call was legitimate. They pointed out that Travers’ challenge was reckless and that the Arsenal star had every right to go down after the contact.

Lineker stated on the Rest is Football podcast: “That was a penalty. If you look at it in normal speed, the keeper comes out rashly, misses the ball completely. Why should the centre-forward leap out of the way of him?”

Shearer echoed this sentiment, saying: “The keeper is stupid enough to come out like that; then, you’re inviting contact. The forward doesn’t have to jump over him. Gary is absolutely right. Why should he have to jump over him? He can leave his foot there and make contact. I thought it was a stupid challenge from the goalkeeper.”

Aside from winning the penalty for the all-important opening goal, Kai Havertz’s exceptional performance against Bournemouth included 55 touches of the ball and three key passes. The German international made four tackles as well and won eight of his nine attempted ground duels.
