Paul Merson believes Arsenal could storm to the Premier League title next season — winning it by a 10-point margin — if they complete the signing of Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.
Liverpool were crowned Premier League champions on Sunday after thrashing Tottenham 5-1 at Anfield, sealing their 20th English league title in style. Arne Slot’s side only needed a point to clinch the trophy but delighted their fans with a dominant performance, pulling clear of their rivals in the title race.
With Liverpool’s triumph confirmed, Arsenal are set to finish second for a third consecutive season. The Gunners currently sit in the runners-up spot on 67 points, five ahead of third-placed Newcastle United with four matches remaining.

Despite Arsenal falling short this year, Merson is confident they can make up the gap next season — if they manage to land Isak. Speaking to Sportskeeda, the former Arsenal midfielder said: “Alexander Isak is expected to attract interest from a few clubs this summer, but I feel like he could play the waiting game before deciding on his future. Newcastle could be playing Champions League football next season and have already tasted silverware.

“Let’s not forget they are a big club, and if they qualify for the Champions League, they will be an attractive project. However, Arsenal seems like the best possible move for him if he leaves Newcastle. If the Gunners get him, they will win the league by 10 points!”

Arsenal have been heavily linked with the Sweden international over the past year, but Newcastle’s valuation of over £100 million could complicate any summer move. The Gunners, who made an unsuccessful bid for Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins in January, have also shown interest in cheaper alternatives such as Liam Delap and Benjamin Sesko.
However, Isak remains Mikel Arteta’s top target after another outstanding season at St James’ Park. The 24-year-old has scored 26 goals in all competitions, playing a key role in Newcastle’s Carabao Cup triumph and their push towards Champions League qualification.
