Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has expressed his deep disappointment after hearing Trent Alexander-Arnold being booed by sections of the Anfield crowd during a recent match against Arsenal.
The right-back, who is set to leave Liverpool this summer upon the expiry of his contract, was jeered by some fans after coming off the bench in the 2-2 draw with the Gunners earlier this month. Alexander-Arnold is widely expected to join Spanish giants Real Madrid in a high-profile free transfer.
Speaking at an LFC Foundation fundraiser on Friday, Klopp said he was so upset by the reaction that he had to turn off the television.

“I watched the game when he came on and I heard the booing. I switched the telly off. Honestly, I could not have been more disappointed at that moment,” said the German coach, who guided Liverpool to Champions League and Premier League titles during his nine-year reign.

“I don’t want to tell people what to think. But I can tell you what you think is wrong. This club doesn’t forget,” Klopp added. “I was there. I can tell you, this boy gave absolutely everything.”

Jürgen Klopp, who brought a signed Alexander-Arnold shirt to the event for auction, passionately defended the academy graduate who played a key role in the club’s recent golden era, including their first league title in 30 years.
However, not everyone at Liverpool has been as supportive. New manager Arne Slot offered a more critical assessment of Alexander-Arnold’s recent training performances ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace.
“I wasn’t completely happy with every single minute of how he was on the training ground,” Slot said. “In my opinion, in certain moments he could do a bit more, to say it mildly, and that’s what we talked about.”
