Mikel Arteta set for crucial talks with Arsenal hierarchy to end trophy drought

Mikel Arteta will hold a key end-of-season review with the Arsenal hierarchy next week, as the club begins planning to finally end its five-year wait for a major trophy.
Following Sunday’s Premier League finale against Southampton, Arteta and senior figures at the club will sit down for their regular bi-monthly performance review. The meeting will serve as both a reflection on the season and a launchpad for building a strategy for the next campaign.
“Our performance review goes every two months,” Arteta explained. “That is the way we do it. Then we will sit next week with everybody involved.”
Despite a strong season that saw Arsenal remain in contention across several fronts, the club ultimately ended the campaign without silverware. Arteta views the upcoming meeting as a crucial step toward changing that narrative.

The manager described the review process as collaborative, constructive, and deeply analytical. “We will do everything that we planned and what actually happened,” he said. “I’ll take all that and go to Spain — somewhere very quiet — and start going through it with ideas and learnings I already have. It’s about putting that into a plan, into a vision that can be passed on to the staff immediately so everyone is aligned when we return.”
Arteta emphasised the importance of a culture rooted in mutual respect, transparency, and solution-focused thinking.
“Give arguments, make sure the context is not for your own benefit but for the benefit of all. If you bring a problem, bring a solution. Otherwise, we’re just stuck in problems.
“The atmosphere we have in those meetings is phenomenal. They are among the best moments of the season for me.”
Arsenal will conclude their campaign with a trip to Southampton before players head off for their summer break. Arteta also plans to take some time to unwind and reflect.

“I enjoy time off because I know I’ve given my best — or very close to it. I’ve been honest with myself, with the staff, with the players. I have that feeling now and hopefully it stays after Sunday.”
“We all deserve to recharge, think about other things, give time to our families and friends, and disconnect a bit from this world.”
However, even during the break, Arteta knows his phone will remain on. “There’s always that connection because things happen at a football club that you have to pay attention to. But hopefully, I will enjoy it a lot.”
