Arsenal have reportedly narrowed their search for a new striker to just two names ahead of the summer transfer window, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein. The Gunners are now focusing their attention on Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyökeres and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško as they look to strengthen their attacking options.

Manager Mikel Arteta is said to be targeting a proven No. 9 to provide greater firepower up front, with Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus currently seen as insufficient for Arsenal’s long-term ambitions. While several strikers have been linked—including Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and former Manchester City youngster Liam Delap—Arsenal are now believed to be weighing up a decisive move for either Gyökeres or Šeško.

According to Ornstein, speaking during a Q&A session on The Athletic, both players are “under consideration,” with no final decision made yet on which of the two will be pursued more aggressively.

“It seems Arsenal are deciding between which of those two strikers to pursue as their preferred target,” Ornstein said. “There are naturally pros and cons, but I must say Gyökeres and Šeško are elite number nines who would be outstanding signings, so this should bring some excitement to the Arsenal fanbase—if one of them is signed!”

Šeško, 21, has had a quieter season at RB Leipzig and has yet to fully build on the promise he showed last year. Despite his modest output, his physical attributes and age continue to make him an intriguing option for a club like Arsenal. However, concerns reportedly exist within the club about his lack of top-level experience and immediate readiness for the Premier League.

Gyökeres, on the other hand, has enjoyed a sensational season in Portugal, scoring a remarkable 53 goals in all competitions for Sporting. The 25-year-old Swedish international’s prolific form has turned heads across Europe, though questions remain about how well he would adapt to the demands of English football.

Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta is now expected to take the lead in the final decision-making process, with a resolution likely to come in the next few weeks as the Gunners aim to finalise their summer transfer plans.
