Arsenal will have to make a big decision at the end of the season regarding the future of midfielder Thomas Partey as the Ghanaian international approaches the final year of his contract at the Emirates Stadium, with indications suggesting his tenure at the club may come to an end this summer.
With Partey’s contract dwindling, Arsenal confront a pivotal choice: whether to capitalise on his market value and secure a transfer fee this summer or retain him for the upcoming season, risking his departure on a free transfer next summer. Speaking on The Athletic FC podcast, journalist David Ornstein expressed scepticism regarding the likelihood of Partey securing a contract extension with Arsenal.
Partey’s diminishing influence on the pitch adds urgency to Arsenal’s need for resolution. Despite his stature as a key player, the 30-year-old has made only nine Premier League appearances for Arsenal this season, a stark contrast to his 33 appearances in the previous campaign.

Ornstein remarked, “There are clear questions that need to be answered around Thomas Partey, who is approaching the final year of his contract. He barely plays for Arsenal anymore. He seems to be fit now. But he’s not really getting on the pitch and he’s not influencing.
“We know how good he can be. But recent times have not worked out how everybody would hope. I don’t imagine he’ll be getting a new contract. So do you sell? Or do you retain him as a player and you see that value in the final year as being better than a transfer fee?”
In response to queries about Partey’s future, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta emphasised the midfielder’s importance to the team’s objectives. Arteta asserted, “He’d better have his head here because we are playing for big things. That’s what we expect. We need him. He’s a top player and important for us.”
Partey himself has reaffirmed his commitment to Arsenal, stating, “My head is always here. This is where I choose to play, I’m really happy every time I’m on the field.”
Amidst uncertainties, Partey remains focused on contributing to Arsenal’s cause, expressing confidence in his fitness and dedication to maintaining his performance levels. However, Arsenal’s looming decision regarding his future adds a layer of complexity to the midfielder’s ongoing saga at the club.
