Arsenal fans can breathe a sigh of relief as the club ramps up efforts to secure the long-term future of star defender William Saliba.
The 24-year-old French center-back, a cornerstone of Mikel Arteta’s squad, has been the subject of intense speculation, with Real Madrid identifying him as their primary defensive target for the summer transfer window. However, recent developments suggest Saliba is likely to remain in North London.
According to reports, Arsenal have opened contract talks with Saliba, whose current deal runs until 2027. With two years left by summer, the Gunners are keen to extend his contract to fend off interest from the Spanish giants.

New sporting director Andrea Berta is leading negotiations, and discussions with Saliba’s representatives have intensified in recent weeks. While no formal offer has been made, Arsenal are confident of reaching an agreement that reflects Saliba’s status as one of the Premier League’s elite defenders.
Saliba has expressed happiness at Arsenal, describing playing for the club as his “childhood dream.” Manager Mikel Arteta has echoed this sentiment, stating, “I’m certain he is so happy here and wants to continue with us.”

Despite Real Madrid’s allure, Saliba has no intention of forcing a move, though he reportedly seeks assurances that Arsenal can compete for major trophies.
Speaking on ESPN, James Olley has claimed that there’s one player who definitely won’t be leaving Arsenal this summer though, noting that Arsenal won’t be selling William Saliba under any circumstances.
The Gunners’ determination to keep Saliba is unwavering, with the club reportedly valuing him at over £100 million.
Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit warned that selling Saliba could destabilise the squad, potentially prompting stars like Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice to reconsider their futures. Arsenal’s proactive approach, including plans to sign new talents like Martin Zubimendi, signals their ambition to build around Saliba.
As the Gunners prepare for a crucial summer, securing Saliba’s commitment would be a statement of intent. Fans will hope Berta’s negotiations bear fruit, ensuring the defensive lynchpin remains at the Emirates for years to come.
