Arsenal are set for a significant midfield reshuffle this summer, with Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi reportedly edging closer to a move to the Emirates Stadium. The Spaniard, long admired by manager Mikel Arteta, is said to have agreed personal terms with the Gunners in recent weeks, bringing the deal a step closer to completion.
As part of the midfield shake-up, Italian international Jorginho is expected to depart at the end of his contract, with a move to Brazilian giants Flamengo on the cards. Meanwhile, Thomas Partey’s future remains up in the air, although Arsenal are reportedly open to offering him fresh terms to extend his stay.
There is also uncertainty surrounding Fabio Vieira, who is currently on loan at former club FC Porto, with no clear indication yet on whether he will be reintegrated into the squad or sold permanently.

In a fresh development, Albert Sambi Lokonga is now set to return to Arsenal after Sevilla opted not to make his loan deal permanent. The Belgian midfielder endured an injury-ravaged stint in Spain, suffering four separate hamstring injuries during the 2024/25 campaign. As a result, Sevilla have decided against activating the £10.2 million purchase option included in the loan agreement.

Lokonga has not featured under interim boss Joaquín Caparrós, who took charge following another managerial change at the club. With a recovery period of three to four weeks ahead, it is likely Lokonga has already played his final game for the La Liga side.

Sevilla, currently battling to avoid relegation, are preparing for a cost-cutting summer amid the financial blow of missing out on European competition. A number of players are expected to be offloaded, and a new permanent head coach will be appointed once Caparrós’ temporary spell concludes.
Back at Arsenal, Lokonga’s future remains unclear. Arteta is not believed to have changed his stance on the midfielder, who has struggled to make an impact since joining from Anderlecht. A permanent departure appears likely, as the Gunners prepare for a midfield rebuild aimed at strengthening their title challenge next season.
