Rio Ferdinand rubbish claims £100m star will leave Arsenal this summer

Premier League legend Rio Ferdinand has come out in defence of Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice, dismissing speculation that the England international might consider leaving the club due to a lack of silverware.

According to Ferdinand, who is a close fan and ally of Declan Rice, the midfielder is committed to the Arsenal project and is not motivated by money or fame. Ferdinand believes that Rice is driven by a desire to improve himself as a player and win trophies, rather than personal gain.

“Declan’s not gone to Arsenal for money or fame,” Ferdinand said on his podcast. “He’s gone there to try and improve himself and win. And if you’re not doing that, I could see him maybe getting itchy feet, but I think it’s too early to say that.”

Rice has been an integral part of Arsenal’s midfield, bringing steel and structure to Mikel Arteta’s side. He has become a leader in the dressing room, often captaining the side in the absence of Martin Ødegaard and setting the tone with his work ethic and vocal presence on the pitch.

While Arsenal’s recent campaigns have seen them come close to winning trophies, the wait for silverware continues. However, with a youthful core, a clear tactical identity, and growing experience in big competitions, many believe that Arsenal are on the brink of something special.

The midfielder remains central to Arsenal’s plans, and judging by both his performances and Ferdinand’s insight, he is fully committed to seeing the project through.

If Arsenal can match Rice’s ambition with tangible progress in the coming seasons, there should be little concern over his future in North London. With Rice’s leadership and talent, Arsenal fans have every reason to be optimistic about the future.

Arsenal smashed their transfer record in the summer of 2023 to complete the signing of England midfielder Declan Rice from West Ham. Arsenal reportedly signed Rice for a record £100 million ($131m) plus £5m ($6.5m) in add-ons. The energetic midfielder has since played 71 times for Arsenal in two seasons, scoring 10 goals.
