Andrea Berta does not believe signing Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia is a good use of funds if Arsenal have to manage spending this summer

Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta does not believe signing Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia this summer is a good use of funds if the club have to manage spending, according to Team News and Ticks on Patreon.

Team News and Ticks – a Gunners account and insider – famous for leaking team news on the internet and followed by the likes of Dharmesh Sheth, David Ornstein, Fabrizio Romano and Gary Jacobs on X (formerly Twitter), have been a trusted source concerning all things Arsenal, and they have claimed today that while Gunners manager Mikel Arteta wants and loves the 24-year-old, Berta does not see the reason to sign him.

The Italian believes the Spaniard is a good goalie, but he would allocate the funds to sign elsewhere given the need to reinforce other positions.

Garcia would cost suitors around £25 million, and spending such a fee on a back-up goalkeeper does not appeal to the Arsenal sporting director.

Neto is returning to Bournemouth after his loan spell ends and the Gunners want a capable cover and competition for David Raya.

Arteta is convinced Garcia fits the bill as 19-year-old Tommy Setford and 16-year-old Jack Porter are still short on needed first-team experience should anything happen to their first-choice.
