Arsenal open contract talks with experienced forward despite exit rumours

Arsenal have opened negotiations with Leandro Trossard over a new long-term contract that would keep him at the club until 2029, according to Mail Sport.

The 30-year-old Belgian, who joined the Gunners from Brighton in January 2023 for £27 million after Arsenal missed out on signing Ukrainian forward Mykhailo Mudryk to Chelsea, has become an integral part of Mikel Arteta’s squad. This season, Trossard has featured prominently, making 26 starts in 35 Premier League appearances, contributing eight goals and six assists.

Trossard’s current deal is set to expire next summer, though it includes a one-year extension clause that could keep him at the Emirates until 2027. However, reports suggest the new contract on the table would extend his stay by a further two years, taking him to 2029.

The move to secure Trossard’s future comes amid renewed interest from the Saudi Pro League, with Al-Ittihad and other clubs understood to be monitoring his situation closely. Arsenal rejected a €35 million (£29m) offer from Al-Ittihad last September, but Saudi sides remain keen to lure the Belgian forward this summer.

For Trossard, the new deal would be a significant boost, potentially keeping him in north London until the age of 34. Arsenal’s willingness to offer such a lengthy contract reflects their confidence in his fitness and durability—uncommon for players over 30.

Arteta has frequently praised Trossard’s professionalism and impact, both as a starter and off the bench. After Trossard’s crucial goal at Villa Park, Arteta noted: “Leo is upset but channels it to show how good he is,” highlighting the player’s determination despite occasional frustration over his playing time.

While Arsenal continue to target reinforcements in attack—particularly a new striker and left winger this summer—securing Trossard’s services long-term would provide valuable continuity and experience.
