Fabio Vieira’s future at Arsenal remains uncertain as his loan spell at FC Porto fuels speculation about a permanent exit. Arsenal have set a £30m price tag on the 24-year-old midfielder, with clubs from Spain, England, and Germany making enquiries.
The Gunners aim to recoup their £34m investment from 2022, but Vieira’s strong form in Portugal complicates the decision.
Vieira, who struggled for consistency at Arsenal with 49 appearances, three goals, and nine assists, has thrived at Porto, recording eight goals and five assists in 37 matches this season.

His recent streak, including two goals in a week against Vitoria Guimaraes and Arouca, earned praise from Portuguese media. However, disciplinary issues, such as being dropped for arriving late to training, raised concerns, though Porto’s former manager Vitor Bruno confirmed Vieira’s stay until the season’s end, quashing recall rumours.
Mikel Arteta’s preference for youth, notably 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri, who has emerged as a key backup to Martin Odegaard, dims Vieira’s prospects of reintegration.
Arsenal’s midfield is set to strengthen with Martin Zubimendi’s expected arrival, further crowding Vieira’s path. Charles Watts, via Caught Offside, suggests a permanent move is likely, noting the absence of a buy option in the loan deal indicates Arsenal haven’t fully closed the door but are open to offers.
For Arsenal fans, Vieira’s situation is bittersweet. His creativity and versatility could bolster the squad, but Nwaneri’s rise and Arteta’s high standards make a return unlikely.
With Vieira’s contract running until 2027, Arsenal hold leverage to demand a fair fee, but a summer transfer seems inevitable as they prioritize youth and financial recoupment.
