Liverpool manager Arne Slot says he was not surprised to see Arsenal drop points in their midweek clash with Crystal Palace—a result that has left his side on the verge of clinching the Premier League title.
Arsenal were held to a 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium by Crystal Palace, twice surrendering the lead in a match that further dented their fading title hopes. While Slot admitted he expected the Gunners to win before kick-off, the performance of Palace came as no shock during the game.
“I would have been surprised before the game if it ended in a draw,” Slot told reporters. “But during the game, I wasn’t. Crystal Palace showed again what this league is all about. It was a very good team performance with some outstanding individual displays.”

Liverpool now sit 12 points clear at the top of the Premier League with five games remaining and a game in hand on Arsenal. The Reds need just one point from their upcoming match against Tottenham on Sunday to seal the title, which would equal Manchester United’s record of 20 league championships.

While Arsenal’s Champions League campaign has taken centre stage, their domestic stumbles have given Liverpool a clear path to the crown. Slot praised the competitive nature of the Premier League, calling the Arsenal-Palace result a perfect example of its unpredictability.
Slot acknowledged the importance of Sunday’s fixture—not just for the title, but for the fans who were denied a proper celebration when Liverpool last won the league in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It’s a big responsibility. Everyone remembers that our last title came during Covid, and the fans couldn’t celebrate it properly,” Arne Slot said. “Now we have a chance to do it in front of them. But we know we still have to earn it—at least one point. That’s the focus.”
