Arsenal midfielder Jorginho appears set to leave the club this summer, with reports indicating he has agreed to join Brazilian giants Flamengo as a free agent.

The 33-year-old Italian, whose contract expires in June 2025, has been a valuable squad player since joining from Chelsea in January 2023 for £12m. However, recent developments suggest his time at the Emirates is drawing to a close.

According to journalist Vene Casagrande, Jorginho has accepted a three-year deal with Flamengo, with documents expected to be signed soon. Other reports claim Arsenal and Jorginho have already agreed to terminate his contract early, allowing the midfielder to join Flamengo as early as May.

This follows failed contract extension talks, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirming it’s “over” between Arsenal and Jorginho after negotiations stalled in April.

Jorginho, who made 78 appearances and scored twice for Arsenal, has been a reliable presence, offering composure and leadership in midfield. His penalty in the 6-0 Champions League win over RC Lens in 2023 and a crucial assist against Newcastle in May 2023 earned him praise.

However, with only six Premier League starts this season and a lung injury sidelining him since April, his role has diminished behind Declan Rice, Thomas Partey, and Mikel Merino.

Flamengo’s interest intensified after Jorginho rejected an earlier £8.5m offer, demanding closer to £11m over three years. The Brazilian club, preparing for the 2025 Club World Cup, sees the Euro 2020 winner as a marquee signing.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are eyeing Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi as a long-term midfield replacement, signaling a squad refresh under Mikel Arteta.

As Jorginho nears a return to his native Brazil, where he has never played professionally, Arsenal fans will remember his professionalism and clutch moments. His departure marks the end of an era, but the Gunners’ focus remains on building a title-contending squad.
